Annie's Ramblings - Rain, rain go away!
Hi there. What a crazy week it has been. With 6 months of rainfall in a weekend, I am not sure any of us will the words “extreme weather event” for granted in anyway in the future! While most of us ‘townies’ got off pretty lightly, my heart goes out to those people who have had flood waters through their homes, gardens and farms seeing years of work undone.
The effects of this weather event will go on for months with road, rail and bridge repairs on going, but at least the Rakaia, Ashburton and Rangiatata bridges in our region are all open and holding together maintaining our vital links with the rest of the country.
At Annie’s it is back to business as usual. Just arrived are some gorgeous new cross stitch patterns which have been added to the website.

Also back in stock is this stunning "Moxie" fabric from Kathy Holden and I have managed to get a great bulk deal on these great little sewing clips. These are brilliant for holding your binding in place while you stitch, or for English Paper piecing when you are wrestling with large hexagons or for holding things in place when you glue and stick. Usually these are $19.90 for 10 our price is $9.50 for 20 so be in quick!
As we have just turned the calendar on another month we have pulled another name out of the hat as the winner of the Annie's CQS $40.00 voucher. That lucky person is Averley Sinclair from Abbotsford. Congratulations Averley your voucher is here waiting for you.
This weeks’s recipe is a tasty twist on Cauliflower Cheese. The addition of a little bacon takes it to next level.
Cauliflower Cheese with Bacon
- 1 small cauliflower cut into chunks
- 4 rashers of bacon
- 25 g butter
- 25 g flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup tasty cheese
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Preheat the oven to 200 C. Blanch the cauliflower in boiling water for 4 minutes and then drain. Place in an ovenproof dish and set aside.
Cook the bacon and then cut it into small pieces and sprinkle it over the cauliflower. Heat the butter in a small pot until melted and add in the flour. Slowly add the milk stirring constantly until the sauce thickens. Add half of the grated cheese.
Pour the sauce over the cauliflower and bacon. Top with the rest of the grated cheese and cook in the oven until golden and bubbly (about 10 minutes).
We will open Saturday and Sunday but CLOSED MONDAY for the Queen's Birthday holiday as we have family staying for the long weekend.
Happy Stitching,
Rachel
