Hi there, I have been busy unpacking more parcels this week (don’t tell the accountant or the book woman!), but it is always exciting when you manage to source hard to find items or things that are old favourites.

The Q Snap Frames fall into this category, and I am pleased to say that they are now have a few in stock (11” x 11” and 11” x 17”) with more supplies coming.  These are brilliant frames which hold your quilting, embroidery or cross stitch firmly and can easily be repositioned.  If you are missing a ‘clip’ I have also ordered more of these which will fit frames made after 1992 and these are now listed on the Annie’s website.

Another quilt just hot off the sewing machine is this one featuring Kaffe Fasset fabrics.  You may have heard of the “Jelly Roll Race” – this is a very quick and easy way to make a quilt top in a couple of hours using just one Jelly Roll and a fabric of your choice for the border and binding.  We have heaps of Kaffe jelly rolls in stock and these are just $74.00 each, so it makes a pretty economical quilt without any cutting!  If you would prefer something more muted in colour, we also have some very pretty jelly rolls from Moda in stock now also.

In last week’s newsletter I mentioned about the fabulous Daylight LED sewing machine light we had on special for $49.00 down from $56.00.  We had an amazing response to this and I am sure that a great many of you will be seeing much clearer when you sew now.  The first shipment of these lights have sold out, but I have negotiated with the supplier to get another lot which should be here in the next 3-4 weeks, and the good news is that we can still do these at the special price.  So be in quick!

Before I forget, the tickets for the Sue Spargo Trunk Shows are now available from Annie’s.  The first one will be in Richmond (Nelson) at the Headingly Centre Monday 31 August at 7.30 pm.  Sue will show her quilts and a slide show of her work and there will be an opportunity to purchase some of her latest books, patterns and threads.  Tickets are $5.00 each

The Ashburton Trunk Show will be Friday 4 September at the Linton Lounge of the RSA on Cox Street at 7.30pm.  Those lucky people who are registered for the workshop will receive a complimentary ticket.

Now, onto the recipe….I am a great believer in using seasonal produce – it is cheaper and it tastes better.  In the depths of winter there are times when you just feel like a salad, so here is a tasty alternative to the traditional lettuce variety.

Curried Cauliflower Salad

• 600 g cauliflower, cut into small florets
• 2 shallots or a small onion, sliced
• ½ c low fat mayonnaise
• 1-2 tsp curry powder
• ½ tsp of vegetable or chicken stock powder
• 1-2 cloves of garlic, crushed
• Pepper
• ½ c toasted cashew nuts

Steam the cauliflower until just cooked.  Place in a colander and run it under the cold tap to cool it quickly and prevent further cooking.  Drain well and place in a large bowl.

In another bowl combine the remaining ingredients (except the nuts) then toss with the cauliflower mixing well.  Chill and mix in the cashew nuts just before serving.
