Annie's Ramblings 10 September, 2015

Well...another busy week has flown by and if you missed all the fun of our visit from International tutor and stitcher extraordinaire  Sue Spargo you can see some of the images on the Annie's Facebook page or on Sue's Blog.

10september2015 1I am now in catch up mode and making plans for my next trips  to Nelson  where I will be a merchant for the WOW What a Weekend  hosted by the Nelson Embroiderers Guild.  (25-27 October).

The following weekend (2-4 October) I will be a merchant at the Nelson Quilters Guild Show 'Festival of Quilts 2015'.  Both events are being held at Waimea College, Richmond. http://www.nelsonquiltersguild.org.nz/

Back in the shop, and we have just unpacked a great new  fun Christmas range from Australian designer Anni Downs called Under the Mistletoe.  You can have a close up look at the fabrics on line at the web address below, and don't forget to check out the free patterns you can down load from the site as well.

Speaking of stitching, I have also negotiated a great deal on some John James needles and I am happy to pass these savings  on to you.  These are great quality needles in large packs of 25 and are now half price at $2.40 a pack (usually $4.80), so be in quick as now is the time to stock up!  Like scissors, a girl can never have too many needles!  We have packs of Embroidery (size 8,9,10), Chenille (size 26), Betweens (size 8).  We can post these out to you in an envelope (as many as we can fit in there)for just 80 cents postage, if you can't make it into the shop.

On to the recipe, this is a great 'take a plate or take a picnic' type of dish which is very tasty and looks great with a fresh salad and some crusty bread.

Tumeric and Ginger Chicken Drumsticks

  • 12 chicken drumsticks
  • 1 c greek style yoghurt
  • 2 cm piece of fresh ginger (grated)
  • 1 tsp tumeric
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds, toasted
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 2 cloves garlic finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Use a small sharp knifee and cut two slashed into the meatiest part of each drumstick. Combine all the other ingredients in a large bowl and add to the chicken tossing to coat.  Cover and leave in the fridge for an hour or overnight.

Preheat the oven to 200C, and bake the drumsticks on a tray lined with baking paper for about 25 mins.  Drain off any excess liquid and then cook for a further 15-20 mins until slightly charred and cooked through.  Garnish with lemon wedges.

Before I forget, congratulations to Leureen Pederson of Christchurch who was the winner of the $50.00 voucher from Annie's Country Quilt Store for August!

Take care and happy stitching

Rachel
