Annie's Ramblings - Classy Storage Solutions
Hi there. Another week has flown by and it won’t be long before we are starting to think about wood supplies for the winter and daylight saving. Perhaps we should be planning another BBQ while we can make the most of summer and all the fresh fruit and vegetables!
This week I thought I would show you this table runner that I finished recently. It is a simple pattern, (but sometimes they are the ones that work best) using small squares of selected NZ fabrics. This is available as a kit, and it would look great using some of the NZ Batik fabrics as well. The kit is $59.00 and includes the pre-cut squares as well as fabric for the sashings, borders, bindings and backing. It is also a really good one for sending overseas. Don’t forget we also have charm squares and jelly rolls in the NZ fabrics as well.
If you are looking for some classy storeage solutions for your sewing essentials or a way to show off your favourite collection of antique buttons, buckles and laces, these lovely wooden boxes are just the thing. There are two sizes and they are $46 and $48.00.
Last weekend we held another really successful Tuffet Class, with all the ladies producing a unique and stunning piece of furniture that I am sure has pride of place in the lounge or sewing room.
The next two classes are full, however I have slotted another class into the calendar for the weekend of 10-11 June. Pictures and details are on the class page of our website, Facebook and Instagram pages – so bring a friend and make a fun weekend of it!
Also don’t forget about the wool class this Saturday 10-4 where you can set aside a whole uninterrupted day to work on your wool applique projects (sounds perfect to me!) with like-minded enthusiasts.
For those of you who need some great weekend reading and inspiration, the new Simply Vintage magazine has arrived in and this issue includes patterns for some really lovely reproduction quilts.
On to the recipe…here is a tasty dish to use up some of those beautiful fresh tomatoes that are in abundance at the moment. These are perfect with slow roasted meats or with some beef or lamb skewers and salad. Yum!
Slow Roasted Spiced Tomatoes
- 8 medium size tomatoes
- 50 g butter
- 1 tsp ground cumin or coriander
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp allspice
Mix the butter and spices together. Generously cut out the core from the base of each tomato and press equal amounts of the filling into each one.
Place the tomatoes into a baking dish, butter end up and bake at 160C for about an hour or until well cooked.
