Annie's Newsletter - Saturday Wool Class

Hi there.  Another week has rolled around and it is newsletter time again!

8.3.17 2I seem to have lots of hand work projects on the moment…far too many in fact between English Paper Piecing and Wool Applique (both seriously addictive) there is never enough stitching time.  My husband is very partial to having something to eat with a cuppa, and is starting to feel a bit neglected so that might be another job on the list for today as well!  (See the recipe below for industrial quantities of biscuits!)

This week I thought I would show you this new quilt that I have just finished using Amy Butler’s Splendor range which is light and bright and shows off the fabrics with this simple pattern from Lyn Wilson called “It’s a Breeze”.  The quilt measures 60” x 80” and I have put it together as a kit for $159 or pattern only it is $23.00.  We have plenty of this fabric on the bolt and as FQ’s as I think it would make great bags and cushions (and Tuffets!).

Getting back to the wool applique, our next Saturday wool class is coming up  on Saturday the 18th of March and is attracting an enthusiastic woolly stitchers all working on different projects…everyone is welcome and it is a great opportunity to treat yourself to a whole uninterrupted day of needlework.

8.3.17 1I have also just received news that Sue Spargo’s new book “Cuppa” from her 2016 BOM program is due out in the US late May early April.  I have pre-ordered a number of copies of this, but if you would like me to put your name on one please let me know.  I am not sure on the price yet, but it should be similar to her other soft cover books.

Last week I forgot to tell you who had won the $50.oo voucher…so the winner is (drum roll please) Natalie Read from Ashburton.

Peanut Cookies (Mega)

  • 500 g butter
  • 500 g sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 6 1/2 c flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • ¾ c cocoa
  • 1 ½ c roasted coarsely chopped  unsalted peanuts

Cream butter and sugar, add the eggs and beat well.  Transfer to a very large bowl and mix in the dry ingredients and lastly the peanuts.  Bake for about 20 mins at 190C.

Often I will divide the dough in half, add peanuts to one half as above.  Add ½ cup of desiccated coconut to the other half and then roll into balls and place a chocolate button on the top of each one to flatten before putting them in the oven (instant icing)

Happy stitching

Rachel
