Annies Newsletter - “Here, there and Everywhere”

Hi there. I have a confession to make...I like white bread, good wine....and sometimes I forget to take my reusable bags to the Supermarket. (Please don’t judge me!)

20.6.18 1However...I am working on it. I can tell you that we have a great selection of bag patterns and special fabrics from just $10.00 pm if you want to go crazy and make some. It is also a great project for children and grandchildren and a good way to introduce them to sewing.

Many of you working on the Dancing Chickens Block of the Month project that we are running, and while you still have your needle poised I thought I would tell you about the new the new BOM project from Anni Downs called “Here, there and Everywhere” which we will be starting soon.

20.6.18 2This is a good size quilt 69” x 69” (or 175 cm x 175) and features simple piecing, quirky wool applique, simple piecing and some hexagons for good measure. Anni describes the quilt as “exploring our journey through life....not just where we have been but what we observe along the way”. You can also personalise the quilt by adding your own maps, anecdotes and memories.

This is a 10 month BOM program and I will be using a very similar colour palette to the original. The cost will be $49.oo per month which will include all the fabrics, wool packs and patterns and I am now taking registrations of interest. If you would like to have a closer look at the pattern I have a copy in the shop or you can purchase it as ‘pattern only’ for $64.00.

Before I forget to tell you, I have scheduled another Tuffet Class for the weekend 8-9 September...plenty of time for you out of town ladies to book some cheap flights (yes you too Gayle!).

Well...it is time to finish the samples and pack the bags for our Akaroa retreat this weekend. Let me know if you are keen to put your name down for next year and I will add you to the list!

Now...on to the recipe.

American Flapjacks (pancakes)

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c milk
  • 225 g flour
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • ½ c sugar
  • 1 tsp salt

Beat together the egg yolks and milk and then add the combined sifted dry ingredients and beat until smooth. Leave to rest for at least 15 minutes. Beat the egg whites until soft peaks form and then fold into the batter. Cook large spoonfuls in a greased, heated frypan. Flip the flapjacks over when they start to bubble. Makes 12 small or 6 large ones. Serve with maple syrup and bacon or fresh fruit and whipped cream or yoghurt.

Happy stitching,

Rachel and the team at Annie’s.
