Annie's Ramblings - 20% off Mini Irons!
Hi there. It is hard to believe that we are at the end of another month. It won’t be long before we are into daylight saving and barbeque weather!
Towards the end of last year we ran a very popular special on these great little mini irons, which are excellent for taking to class or setting up next to the sewing machine when you are doing detailed piecing or applique work. Usually they are $76.00, however through the bulk buying we are pleased to be able to pass on a super special with 20% discount making them $59.90 while stocks last.
Now that we are almost into September it is definitely time to think about those Christmas sewing projects, so I thought I would show you this gorgeous runner from Christchurch teacher and designer Ruth Marshall. The pattern is $23.00 and we have plenty of French General fabric in red and creams as well as the hanky linen to team up with this.
Also new in this week are the new Simply Modern magazines from Quiltmania, and of course more fabric including some cool new Dr Suess fabrics.
Don’t forget that our deals of Bernette machines and the 20% off Bernina and Bernette accessories finishes at close of business tomorrow, so don’t miss out on these savings!
This week’s recipe is a good ‘take a plate’ option that looks great and the toppings can be adjusting to suit the ingredients that you have on hand.
Sweet Corn Blini with Avocado and Streaky Bacon
- 2 eggs – yolks and whites separated
- ½ c milk
- ½ c wholemeal flour
- ¼ c plain flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ c whole kernel corn (drained)
Whisk the egg yolks in a bowl with the milk, then gradually mix in the flours, baking powder and salt until you have a smooth batter. Stir in the sweet corn. Cover and refrigerate for 20 mins. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold them into the batter with a metal spoon.
Cook small spoonful’s of batter in a heated non-stick pan until they are golden on each side and cooked through.
Mix an avocado in a food processor with salt, pepper, lime juice and a few drops of tabasco sauce until smooth. Put a dollop of this of the top of each blini and garnish with crispy bacon, smoked salmon or your favourite toppings. Garnish with a coriander or parsley leaf.
Happy stitching,
Rachel
