Annie's Ramblings - 12 September 2019
Hi there. Isn’t it great to see things starting to take off in the garden? I am excited to see the first spears of asparagus poking through the ground. I will let someone else enjoy the whitebait if I can have the asparagus and the new potatoes!
This month there are some great savings on the Bernette range of sewing machines and overlockers. You can check these out either in store or on line at www.bernina.co.nz.
The pre-symposium deals on the Bernina machines also continue until sold out. This includes the B770, B570 and the B475 which are all quilter’s editions. There are some amazing savings to be made on these machines (between $700-$1500). Some conditions do apply.
Now is also the time to start thinking about lay-by for Christmas!
If you need a lovely Christmas present for a stitching friend, we are taking pre-orders for the 2020 Inspirations Calendar ($25.00) which features some of the most incredible embroidery that you can’t help but be inspired!
Woolly Stitchers day has come around again and we will be busy stitching up a storm in the classroom this Saturday from 10-4. For more details https://www.anniesquilts.co.nz/cms/classes.html
This week I thought I would share a very quick and easy quiche recipe, made even easier if you buy store bought pastry if you need a little shortcut.
Cheese and Bacon Quiche
Pastry –
3 c flour
¼ tsp salt
175 g butter
½ - 2/3 c cold water
Filling –
- 6 large eggs
- 800 ml cream
- Salt and pepper and a pinch of nutmeg to taste
- 200 g chopped bacon pieces
- 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
Place the flour, salt and butter in a food processor and mix well. Gradually add in the cold water until the mixture forms a ball. Chill the dough for an hour.
Preheat the oven to 190C. Roll the pastry out thinly to fit a 30 cm flan dish. Beat the eggs, cream and seasonings. Brown the bacon in a pan and then place on top of the pastry. Pour in the egg mixture, top with the cheese and then cook for 45-50 minutes until golden and set in the middle. Serves 6.
Don’t forget to check out the Ashburton Embroiderers Exhibition at the Ashburton Art Gallery which continues until 22 September.
Take care and happy stitching
Rachel
