Annie's Ramblings - 1 November 2019
Hi there...man I hate it when I lose things. Especially important stuff...usually when you have a deadline to meet. In the next life I hope to come back as a super organised person...I just hope that is not at the expensive of the creativity, because that is the fun stuff, right?
While I am making confessions, I am not one of those people who work on and finish one project at a time. Life is short and I am currently working on two new Block of the Month Quilts for next year, some English paper piecing, and a couple of projects using some of the beautiful Liberty Tana Lawns, as well as the Field Journal. At least that is what is at the top of the pile (we won’t talk about the UFO’s or the cross stitch!)
This week I thought I would show you this bag which I did finish recently using Japanese indigo fabrics and some one-stitch fabric so that you can add in some simple sashiko stitching. This comes as a kit ($79.90) which includes the pattern, pre-cut fabrics, as well as fabrics for the lining, inside pockets, sashiko thread and toggle. The pattern on its own is $23.00.
Brand new from Bernina this week is this very nifty little suitcase designed to hold all your Bernina sewing machine accessories. We have a limited number of these and the price is $149.90. An excellent way to keep everything in one place...and not lose stuff!
Now, before I forget the October winner of the $50.00 voucher from Annie’s is Maureen Griggs who has just moved to Ashburton from Whangamata. Congratutions Maureen, your voucher is waiting for you. Each time you make a purchase you are welcome to put your name in the draw.
If you are thinking that $10,000 of free money would be a pretty nice Christmas bonus you can also put your name into the Hokonui Radio draw when you spend $20 at Annie’s...the only ‘But” is that you must be at the Mitre 10 Christmas in the Park event in Ashburton on 7 December to claim your prize.
Now, on to the recipe. If you are looking for something a little different to pop on the barbeque, these filled flat breads are the Turkish equivalent of toasties and are delicious served warm with a squeeze of lemon juice.
Spinach and Feta Gozleme
- 1 tsp instant yeast
- Salt
- ½ tsp sugar
- 1 ½ c plain flour
- 5 tbsp olive oil
- 150 ml warm water
- 120 g washed and trimmed spinach finely chopped
- 100 g feta cheese, crumbled
- Lemon juice
Place the yeast, pinch of salt, sugar, flour, oil and warm water in a bowl (or bread maker). Mix to a soft dough and then turn onto a floured board and knead until springy. Place the dough in a greased bowl covered with a cloth and leave in a warm sunny place for about 20 minutees until it is doubled in size.
Combine the cheese, spinach, lemon juice and a pinch of salt for the filling.
Divide the dough into four and roll out thinly. Spread the spinach and cheese mixture over one half of each piece of dough folding the other half over the top. Brush with oil and cook on a hot plate until golden and bubbling. Serve with a squeeze of lemon juice.
Have a great weekend...and don’t forget that our Woolly Stitcher’s Day is on tomorrow.
Happy stitching
Rachel
