Annie's Ramblings - 28 February 2020
Hi there. Well, the fire wood has arrived and the dew in the mornings is reminding us that autumn is just around the corner. Time to get the sewing machine serviced and stock up on new projects for the cooler days ahead!
We have two sewing machine technicians at Annie’s and we service all makes and models of sewing machines and overlockers, and unless we are held up waiting for parts, the turnaround times are usually pretty sharp.
This week I thought I would show you my latest quilt called Simply Charming by Cozy Quarters (finished size 54” x 69”). I have used a variety of French General fabrics and the ruched panel in red and the applique create a point of difference for this quilt. The pattern ($23.00) or a kit ($169.00) are available for pre-order as I am just waiting for more patterns to arrive next week.
Also just arrived are these quick and easy from Rosalie Dekker Designs and Two Brown Birds. These are great scrap busters and good for beginners, or for those more seasoned sewers who just need to whip up something in a hurry. These patterns are a great price at $12.00 each.
Coming up next weekend we have the Woolly Stitcher’s Day on Saturday 4th March and the UFO Day on Sunday 5th.
This week’s recipe is a good one for a picnic, lunch boxes or a ‘take a plate’ supper. You can also vary the ingredients with what you have in the fridge.
Tomato and Cheese Rice Cakes
- 1 c long grain rice
- ¼ c dried bread crumbs
- 400 g can tomatoes
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp tomato sauce
- 1 finely chopped onion
- ½ c milk
- 6 eggs lightly beaten
- ½ c grated cheese
- ½ c grated parmesan
- Freshly ground sea salt and black pepper
- Fresh herbs (optional)
Cook the rice and drain well, then leave to cool. Preheat the oven to 180 C. Grease the muffins tins well and then dust with the dried bread crumbs.
Mix the remaining ingredients together with the cooked rice and spoon into the muffin tins. Place a slice of tomato on the top of each one to garnish and bake for about 35-45 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.
Happy sewing,
Rachel
