Annie's Ramblings - 4th December 2023 - Our happy place!

Hi there. Are you getting into the Christmas spirit yet.....(put down the brandy...I did not mean that kind of spirit!!!) However sampling it to make sure it has not gone off before you pour it over the Christmas cake is perfectly acceptable.

We are into Bernina Sale mode from now until Christmas with some great savings across the range of machines and overlockers. For example, if you have been saving up for a new Bernina 570 you can save $1000, which is not to be sneezed at. Give us a call, come into the store and have a demo or check out the prices on our website.

4.12.23 1If you a looking for a Christmas gift for someone in your family, we have the Sew and Go 1 machine available for $199.00 (usually $249.00) This is great for those starting out on their sewing journey or for those just wanting to do a bit of mending, dressmaking or craft sewing without too much investment. All covered by the Bernina/Bernette warranty and backed up with our in house service team.

Carrying on with the Christmas theme, I have just finished this very cute little cross stitch project which we have put together as a kit. It comes complete with pattern, linen and threads for $13.50 – you will just need to add your cotton reel and twig. I have used an antique cotton reel, but we do have these wooden ones which you could paint up or wind some thread around which are just $1.50 each.

4.12.23 2Some time ago I mentioned that we are planning to run the Block of the Month program “HappyLand” which is the new design from Anni Downs (Hatched and Patched). While we are still waiting for our fabric deliveries and final pricing, I thought I would give you a sneek peak at the first month’s sample block that I am working on. This gorgeous 12 month project uses natural Hanky Linen, pale blue Japanese gingham and lots of delightfully quirky wool applique blocks.

This has been hugely popular and we are still taking registrations of interest and doing our very best to make the pricing as attractive as possible through bulk buying deals, looking towards a February start date.

Before I forget the winner of last month’s $50.00 voucher from Annie’s is Lyn Allen from Temuka. Congratulations Lyn, your voucher is here waiting for you.
Now, onto the recipe. Everyone has their favourite version of fudge cake...this is my one. (It is pretty popular and I usually double the quantities)

Double Chocolate Fudge

  • 1 packet plain biscuits or (250g cookie crumbs)
  • 1 ½ c desicated coconut
  • 1 cup chopped raisins
  • 1 can of condensed milk
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 150 g butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence

Blitz the biscuits, coconut and raisins in a food processor to make a fine crumb. In a saucepan melt together the butter, condensed milk and cocoa. Remove from the heat and add in the vanilla and the crumb. Mix well and press into a slice tin. Spread the icing over the fudge cake and cool in the fridge. Cut into small pieces. (Also makes a nice gift)
Icing: 1 block of Whitakers dark chocolate and 3 tablespoons of butter. Melt in a double boiler or bowl over a saucepan of hot water, being careful not to let the water come into contact with the bowl

Best wishes and happy stitching from the team at Annie’s CQS.
