Annie's Ramblings 9th February 2024 - Plans and Projects
Hi there.
Well January ihas flown by and with Easter eggs and hot cross buns in the shops already, it is a reminder that the next holiday weekend is not too far away. However there are plenty of excuses to eat chocolate before then!
Our regular classes at Annie’s have begun again after the January holiday break and I am excited about the year ahead the projects, retreats, block of the months, the shows, the travel and all the people we will meet up with along the way.
Have you registered for Quilt Symposium 2024 in Cambridge? We will be packing the trailer and heading north to be a merchant at this fabulous event. Classes, lectures, exhibitions, entertainment and lots of opportunities to hang out with crazy creative people just like us!

If you need a new challenge, Bernina NZ is calling for entries for their 12” x 12” travelling exhibition. The theme is “Patched” and this can be interpreted any way you like. Entry forms are available from Annie’s or any Bernina store and you could win a Bernette 77 (valued at $2,199.00).
Speaking of Block of the Month projects, our shipment of fabric for Anni Down’s “A Day in Happyland” has just been cleared by customs and is due to arrive any day…yah! It has been a long wait, and if you have expressed interest in this project we will be in touch next week..and no, it is not too late to join in.
If you are out and about, don’t miss the “Suffragette in Stitches” exhibition which is on at the Ashburton Art Gallery on West Street. It is well worth a visit, but it finishes on the 18th of February, so time to plan a visit and we would love to see you at Annie’s too! ☺

Don’t forget we that we also stock a huge range of cross stitch patterns, linens, and DMC threads as well as Weeks Dye Works, Gentle Arts, Classic Colour Works. We have just had another shipment of patterns arrive in, including this beautiful reproduction sampler “Mary Norrie 1859” from Lucy Beam.
By the way, the winner of last month’s $50 voucher from Annie’s is Kay Bone from Ashburton. Congratulations Kay, your voucher is here waiting for you.
Now, on to the recipe. There is lots of lovely rhubarb around at the moment and this is a delicious way to start the day. It would also make a really tasty and easy dessert. (If you need some rhubarb, please let me know.)
Rhubarb and Raspberry Pots
- 250 g diced rhubarb
- 1/3 c brown sugar
- ½ vanilla pod
- Grated zest of an orange or lemon
- A punnet of fresh raspberries
- Greek yoghurt
- ½ c toasted muesli
Place the first four ingredients in the top of a double boiler. Cover and cook for 20 minutes until the rhubarb is soft.
Remove from the heat, discard the vanilla pod and fold through most of the raspberries and set aside to cool.
Spoon into six small glass dishes or pots and add a dollop of yoghurt, a sprinkle of muesli and a couple of extra berries to top it off.
Happy holidays and safe travels, and we look forward to seeing you at Annie’s soon!
