Annie's Ramblings 19th September 2024 - "Inspiration and much more.."

Hi there.  It is show season in the quilt world and we are all busy cutting, folding and pricing fabrics, finishing off kits and samples and hoping that we are bringing the right stuff to keep you all happy and inspired!

Our next big event is our National Quilt Symposium in Cambridge (2-6 October) which is approaching rapidly!  If you are going to be at this event, now is the time to send us your shopping list so that you can pick up your parcels from the Merchant Mall ☺

There are still some classes and lectures available for this event and of course you don’t have to be registered to come and shop and look at the exhibitions.  We would love to see you!  We will have lots of new products and show specials, so don’t miss out! -  https://quiltsymposium.com/

It won’t be long before we are head long into the Christmas season, and if you are looking for a new project to this delightful sashiko panel has just arrived in.  Stitch it for yourself or as a gift…or better still, give it as a gift with some sashiko thread and a needle and encourage someone else to be creative!

These beautiful project books “The Handpicked Collection”  from Inspirations have also arrived this morning.  We have Volumes 1-3 priced at $49.90.   They have 10-12 stunning small embroidery projects in each making them extremely good value.
We have a huge range of linens, threads, hoops, needles and embroidery supplies in stock, so there are no excuses not to start an exciting new project!

We are constantly adding new products to our website, so why not pour yourself a cuppa or a glass of wine and check it out!

This Saturday we have our monthly wool applique class at Annie’s.  You are welcome to join us for an uninterrupted day of hand stitching with plenty of help and advice on offer.  More details on the class page of the website.

Next Friday night will be our Cross Stitch night from 5-8 pm.  More details on the class page of the website. -  https://www.anniesquilts.co.nz/cms/classes.html

This week’s recipe is a great recipe for using the often maligned broad bean.  I never used to like them either, but they are absolutely transformed once they are blanched and the rubbery outer skins are removed.  If you have some in the freezer, now is the time to use them up, and include them in salads and stir fries.

Broad Bean Salad

500 g cooked bean (with outer skin removed)
Dressing:

  • ¼ tsp dry mustard powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley
  • 1 clove garlic
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp wine or cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp oil

Shake all the ingredients together in a jar and pour over the beans.
