Annie's Ramblings 7th November 2024 - Summer fun and lots of projects!
Hi there.
This week it is “Welcome to Summer!” with a couple of very warm days predicted. The lawns and gardens are certainly growing (along with the weeds) and it is lovely to see the roses and the peonies coming into full bloom. This little cushion also reminds me of summer days. This pattern is from a gorgeous little book full of small projects called “Quilt Petite” ($49.90).

I have used some of the Liberty Tana Lawn pieces in my sample, and I think this would lovely in a little girl’s bedroom. We have lots of Liberty fabrics in stock, by the metre, fat quarters, 1/8ths, 16th packs, hexagons and squares.

As we seem to be racing towards Christmas, if you are needing something extra to put in the stockings or to make for your quilting friends these little “Bitsy Boxes” have been very popular. They are easy to make with straight forward instructions. I have also put together some kits which include outside and lining fabric, zip and Soft and Stable. These are $8.50 each and the pattern is sold separately ($23.00). As a bonus when you buy two kits and a pattern you will receive a small pack of quilters clips free!

If you looking for a Christmas present for yourself this year, there are still some great savings to be made on the ex-symposium machines. Ask us about these today, as once they are gone they are gone! We also have a couple of Special Edition Kaffe Fassett Bernina’s still available.

Just a head’s up that Annie’s will be closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Canterbury Anniversary weekend (15-17 November) as the staff enjoy a long weekend and I will be in Wellington for Bernina training. However, we will be back on deck Monday the 18th, and of course you can order on line anytime! ☺
Before I forget the winner of last month’s $50.00 voucher from Annie’s is Carol Wilson from Wellinton. Congratulations Carol, your voucher is here waiting for you and can be spent in store or online.
This week’s recipe is for a quick easy version of a Chicken Laksa which is always a delicious combination of sweet, salty, spicy, and sour ingredients.
Chicken Laksa
- 1 thinly sliced chicken breast
- 3 cloves crushed garlic
- 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
- 2 tsp sweet chilli sausce
- 1 ½ tsp ground coriander
- 2 cups of sliced vegetables ( such as zucchini, snow peas, beans, or spinach)
- 750 ml chicken stock
- 400 ml coconut milk
- 1 tbsp fish sauce or soya sauce
In a large pan fry the chicken with a splash of oil and then set aside. Then add the garlic, spices and vegetables to the pan and cook for 2 minutes before adding in the stock and coconut milk and fish sauce. You can also and in some cooked noodles if desired.
Happy stitching,
Rachel and the team at Annie’s.
