Annies Ramblings 20th May 2026 - Just what you need!

Hi there.  First off I have to apologise for the “radio silence” with regards to the lack of newsletters in recent weeks.  To be honest, life and business just got in the way a bit.

We have been busy…and busy is good!  With a trip to Australia to catch up with suppliers at the Australian Quilt Convention, teaching in Wanaka, classes in Ashburton, our retreat at St Arnaud it has been all go..
I have also been busy working on samples for our next retreat at the Hotel Ashburton (17-19 July).  It is not too late to register for this event with plenty of stitching, shopping and learning opportunities.  Guest speakers, exhibitions, spot prizes, goodie bags, Show and Tell and of course great food are all included.  As a result of your feedback we have extended the retreat to three days this year.  You can register on line, or give us a call at the shop.  Special accomodation rates are available at the Hotel Ashburton if you wish to stay in house.

21.5.26 2Plenty of new stock has been arriving and has been added to our website, including new cross stitch and embroidery patterns, books, and plenty of gorgeous fabric including these wonderful cotton prints from William Morris Designs.  “Morris Muse” by Barbara Brackman for Moda is available now as meterage or precuts.

21.5.26 1These new rechargable neck lights from “Daylight” have just arrived in ($92.00).   They are great for sewing, embroidery, cross stitch, knitting, crochet, reading or travelling.  In fact wherever you are and need a little more illumination!  “Daylight” produce great lights and you can be sure that there is no tinting or distortion of the quality of light…in fact it is like sitting outside on a sunny day!

Don’t forget this Friday night is our FREE Cross Stitch get together in the classroom at Annie’s from 5-8 pm.  Bring something to stitch (or we can find you a new project) and something to eat and drink if you wish, and we will see you there!

This will be closely followed by our Wool Stitching class all day on Saturday.  If you are working on a Sue Spargo, Wendy Williams, Anni Downs, Natalie Bird or in fact anything that involves either wool fabrics, felt or wool threads you are welcome to join us with plenty of help, advice, chat and good company on offer.  (More details on the class page of the website)

Now…onto the recipe.  As the weather is getting colder, soups and casseroles come into favour, but I think there is still room for some in season salads as well.

Curried Cauliflower Salad

  • 5-600 g of cauliflower cut into florets (steamed until just cooked)
  • Spring onions (or red onions)
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • ½ c mayonaise
  • ½ tsp chicken or vegetable stock powder
  • 1-2 cloves of crushed garlic
  • ½ cup roasted cashew nuts
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Combine all the ingredients (except the nuts) in a large bowl and mix well.  Chill, and top with the roasted cashew when ready to serve.

That’s all from me this time, happy stitching!
