Annie's Ramblings 28 April, 2016
Hi there. Life is busy! In fact just when you think it should be getting easier, it just kicks in another notch. However nothing brings things into focus quite like getting that call from the hospital saying that one of your kids has been in an accident, and you remember exactly where your priorities lie! It makes me shudder to think how much worse things could have been...in the meantime broken bones and bruised bodies will mend thankfully.
So, just a sort newsletter this week!
We are really looking forward to the visit by amazing Australian designer Katrina Hadjimichael who is coming to teach for us in August, and I am really pleased that we now have her quilt hanging in the shop. It is stunning, and as you know... no photographs ever do a quilt justice, so I would urge you to come and have a look for yourself.
The class is incredibly good value at $165.00 for the two days, and even if you don't want to make the whole quilt, it is a great opportunity to learn the skills of fussy cutting, English paper piecing and needleturn applique. You can then take from this what you need to create your own heirloom pieces. The workshop is suitable for all levels of ability, and as it is all hand work you won't have to lug your machines around!
We are continuing to work towards our Bernina launch on Saturday May 7th, with up to 30% off all Bernette and Bernina machines, and lots of special offers on the day. Make sure you mark it on the calendar, and come armed with all those tricky questions for the Bernina experts from head office who will in store on the day!
Anyway, onto the recipe
Nutty Seed Bars
- 1 c coconut
- 1 c rolled oats
- 1 c unsalted cashew nut pieces
- 1 c sunflower seeds
- 1/2 c sesame seeds
- 1/2 c pumpkin seeds
- 3/4 c Milo
- 1/2 liquid honey
- 1/4 c raw sugar
- 125 g butter
Preheat the oven to 180 C
Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl with the Milo. Place the honey, sugar and butter in a small saucepan and bring to the boil being careful that it doesn't burrn. Add to the dry ingredients and mix well. Spread into a greased sliced tine and bake for about 18-20 mins. Cool and cut into bars.
